ac-issues-ocalaWhile you could certainly try to live in Ocala without a properly functioning air conditioner, you would probably go through a fairly brutal experience. After all, just about everyone knows that it gets hot down in Florida.

Because Ocala is so hot, a working air conditioner in your home is a near necessity. The last thing you want is for your air conditioner to not be working properly. With that in mind, how do you keep it in good working condition? By keeping an eye out for potential problems.

Here are 5 common air conditioner repair issues in Ocala.

1. Broken Thermostat

One of the first things you’ll want to consider when your air conditioner ceases to work is whether or not your thermostat is functioning properly.

Your thermostat is connected to your air conditioner either by wires or through WiFi. While thermostats typically don’t run into any problems, there is a chance that their connections could become disturbed. There’s also a chance that the battery in your thermostat could need to be replaced.

If you notice that your air conditioner is not performing properly, you should check the thermostat first. A thermostat repair or replacement is the cheapest fix there is to correct a problem with your air conditioner.

2. Dirty Filter

Another very common issue an air conditioner will encounter is a dirty filter. Air conditioner filters trap dirt and residue before they can make their way into the condenser of the AC. Because of this, filters get dirty very quickly.

When a filter becomes too dirty, it no longer does its job, allowing dirt to inundate the air conditioner itself, and making it difficult for the air conditioner to operate.

It’s important to change filters as soon as they become dirty. This will ensure that your air conditioner is running at its maximum capacity at all times. Typically, a filter change every 2 or 3 months will get the job done.

3. Leaking

Every once in a while, your air conditioner will spring a leak in its coolant or refrigerant line. This is a problem because coolant is absolutely necessary in the proper functioning of your AC. Without coolant, your AC will not produce cold air.

The coolant line connects to the condenser of the AC and leads into your home. It’s typically covered in insulation and protective padding so that it can resist physical trauma. However, when it’s met with sizable amounts of trauma, it can produce holes in the line.

You’ll need to call in an air conditioner repair company in order to get your line patched up properly.

4. Malfunctioning Condenser

The condenser of your air conditioner can malfunction for any number of reasons. Sometimes the wiring in the condenser has been disturbed, sometimes there’s something jamming up the inside of the condenser, and sometimes the condenser has suffered physical damage.

The primary key to identifying a malfunctioning condenser is to listen for clunking noises. Loud, slamming noises are a sure sign that something’s wrong.

5. Faulty Motor

The last air conditioner issue we’ll discuss is a faulty motor. In most cases the motor starts to die when the air conditioner has been in commission for too long.

Air conditioners are designed to last many years. If you’ve had your air conditioner for this long and have noticed that it’s lost some of its functionality, it might be time for a full replacement.
