ac-repair-serviceWhile air conditioners are generally pretty steady and functional, they can suffer breakdowns and complications on occasion.

When these breakdowns and complications occur, it’s important to correct them as quickly as possible. Failure to do so will not only result in poor air circulation, but the possibility of further breakdown as well.

But what problems should you be looking out for? Here are 4 frequent air conditioning problems:

1. Motor Issues

Like any motor, an air conditioner motor will eventually start to break down. It’s the natural order of mechanical entities.

There are a number of ways to tell if your motor is struggling. Listen for noises. Is it louder than usual? Is it grinding or crunching in any way? If so, it might be because its components have loosened and are not performing up to par.

In other cases, your motor will just shut off in the middle of an air cycle. This is a sign that the motor no longer possesses the strength to get the job done. It will probably need to be replaced entirely.

2. Malfunctioning Thermostat

On some occasions, you will encounter issues with your thermostat malfunctioning. Thermostat malfunctions come in many forms, from wiring inconsistencies, to dirty components, and accuracy issues, to name just a few.

The accuracy of a thermostat can be affected by its installation location. If it’s too close to doors and windows, it can pick up inconsistent temperatures and fail to program your air conditioning the way that it’s supposed to.

Being inundated with dust and other debris will also cause a thermostat to behave in an odd manner. You may have to remove its face plate so that you can give its interior a good scrub down.

3. Refrigerant Leaks

Refrigerant is the fluid used in an air conditioner to actually make air cold. Without it, your air conditioner will not serve its intended purpose.

In most cases, you won’t have to worry about the refrigerant in your air conditioner running low. However, if there is a leak in one of the lines associated with your air conditioner, you may very well be running low on refrigerant.

You’ll need to fix this line to ensure that the refrigerant stays in your system where it belongs. If you don’t, you’ll be wasting quite a bit of money.

4. Dirty Ducts

One of the most common air conditioner problems is dirty ducts. While you may not think that dirty ducts can make much of a difference with an air conditioner, you would be fairly surprised at how much harder they force an AC to work.

Dust and debris in ducts are like plaque in an artery. The more dust and debris there is, the harder time air is going to have making its way through. Because of this, your air conditioner is going to have to pump even harder to get the job done.

The harder your AC works, the more energy it’s going to use. By letting your ducts remain dirty, you’ll not only be losing money, you’ll also be putting unnecessary strain on your air conditioner. Clear the vents, and make your AC’s life easier.
