Electrical outlet repair at a house in Jensen Beach, FloridaElectrical outlets are designed to thrive through years of continuous use. With that being said, they can incur problems from time to time, and when they do, they need to be repaired as quickly as possible. Failure to quickly repair an outlet can result in safety issues, endangering everyone in the home.

Wondering what types of outlet problems to look out for? Want to learn more about electrical repair in Jensen Beach? If so, you’ve come to the right place. We’re going to explain everything you’ll need to know below.

1. Sparking Outlets

One of the most troubling issues associated with electrical outlets is sparking. In some cases, this could be an issue with the appliance you’re plugging in. However, it could also be an issue with the outlet itself.

When there’s an issue with the outlet itself, it’s often indicative of a short circuit or deteriorated wiring. Note, however, that water damage and other similar issues could be the culprit as well.

In any case, if the sparking continues, we recommended having your outlet inspected by a licensed electrician. This is a safety hazard that absolutely needs to be addressed. Your electrician will be able to identify the source of the problem and take the necessary steps to repair it.

2. Hot Outlets

Another problem to look out for is hot outlets. If your outlets feel hot to the touch, there is undoubtedly a problem of some kind.

One of the most common causes of hot outlets is deteriorated or loose wiring. Note, however, that there are a number of other things that can cause hot outlets as well — including overloading those outlets with appliances, and water damage.

In any case, if an outlet is hot, it has the potential to start a fire. For this reason, if you notice a hot outlet, you should call your electrician and schedule an inspection.

3. Loose Outlets

Having a loose outlet is one of the more annoying electrical problems a homeowner might experience. This is a type of outlet that cannot hold onto a plug — in other words, you could push the plug all the way in, only to have it fall out a few seconds later.

This generally occurs due to aging. The outlet receives continuous friction over time, causing its receptors to wear down and widen. Eventually, they become so wide that they can no longer grasp onto the appliances that are plugged into them.

If your outlets have reached this point, they’ll need to be replaced. You’ll also want your electrician to take a closer look at your electrical wiring, as there could be a safety hazard at hand.

4. Inconsistent Outlets

The last problem we’re going to discuss is an inconsistent outlet. This is when your outlet is not able to provide a continuous stream of electricity, thus causing you appliances to flicker or waver in functionality.

Inconsistent outlets are usually a result of loose or deteriorated wiring. Because the wires are slightly severed, they only pass electricity on occasion. Every time they’re unable to pass electricity, the appliances connected to them will stutter in operation.

The fix? You’ll likely have to replace the wiring. Your local electrician can get this done.
