Air conditioning condenser at a house in Port St Lucie, FloridaThough it might be possible to get by without the use of an air conditioner Port St Lucie, you would likely find it to be an extremely unpleasant experience. After all, It does get pretty hot down here.

As such, it’s important that you keep an eye on your air conditioner, ensuring that it doesn’t suffer any breakdowns. Wondering what you should look for? Then read below. We’re going to review the most common Port St Lucie air conditioner issues.

Dirty Air Filter

A very common issue is the issue of a dirty air filter. AC filters are designed to catch dirt and residue so that they can’t make their way into the corresponding AC condenser. As such, these filters can become very dirty in a hurry.

Unfortunately, once a filter becomes too dirty, it no longer functions as needed, allowing dust and dirt to make their way into the air conditioner itself. Once this occurs, the air conditioner will have trouble operating.

You should change air filters on a consistent basis, generally every 2 months. Make note, however, that if you have pets in your home, you should consider changing the filters every month or so instead. Dog and cat fur can really buildup fast.

Malfunctioning Thermostat

Whenever your air conditioner stops working, the very first thing you should do is check your thermostat.

Your thermostat is synced up with your air conditioner either through wires, or through a wireless internet connection. If your AC isn’t working, there’s a chance that these connections have been lost or impaired in some way.

This can sometimes be a complex issue, especially if the thermostat is physically wired. As such, if you encounter it, it’s recommended that you contact a licensed HVAC repair technician. He or she will be able to assess the problem and make any repairs as needed.

Leaking Refrigerant

From time to time, your air conditioner could be damaged by physical trauma. In rare cases, this physical trauma could damage the AC’s refrigerant line, in particular, causing refrigerant to leak out onto the ground.

Unfortunately, refrigerant is absolutely necessary in order for the air conditioner to function. As such, if it’s leaking out of the system, the system will fail to function. In short, a repair will be needed.

Though you could potentially fix this problem on your own, you would be better served by a professional HVAC technician. Not only will he or she make the proper repair, he or she will also be able to add the correct type of refrigerant back into the system.

Dirty Coils

Every air conditioner condenser contains a set of coils known as the evaporator coils. These coils are vital to the air conditioner’s operation. Unfortunately, over time, they become dirty, and they fail to perform their function as needed. As such, they sometimes require a cleaning (generally every year or so).

It is possible to clean your evaporator coils on your own. It’s a fairly straightforward task as long as you have the necessary tools. However, if you’re not up to the task, there’s no shame in bringing in a licensed HVAC technician to do it for you.
