Ductless mini-split air conditioner in Ocala, FloridaAre you looking to install air conditioning in your home? The only problem is, maybe you’re not sure which type of air conditioning is the best for you? In fact, maybe you’re not even sure of your available options?

That’s why you’re here — you’re looking for a bit of help. Fortunately, this Ocala HVAC company has the answers. Without further ado, here are the different types of air conditioners that are available.

Central Air Conditioner

In Ocala, the most common of all air conditioners is the central air conditioner. A whole-home solution, central ACs utilize a blower, a condenser, and a system of ducts, using each to force air to all areas of a home.

Central AC is the most expensive option, at least on a unit-by-unit basis. However, the other options are only capable of accommodating single rooms. As such, central AC gives you much more bang for your buck.

Ductless Mini-split Air Conditioner

Looking for a single-room air conditioning option? If so, you might be interested in a ductless mini-split system. Ductless mini-split systems are installed on the insides of homes, usually mounted toward the tops of walls.

As the name implies, ductless mini-split systems have no use for ducts. This can be a good thing, as it makes their installation much simpler (thus more cost-effective). That said, it also prevents them from cooling whole homes (unless you install several units in different rooms, which could be quite expensive).

Heat Pump

Heat pumps are a little different from what you would typically expect of air conditioners. Why? Because they produce both heat and cold, thereby acting as heaters and air conditioners.

Exceedingly efficient, they operate on only small amounts of energy. As such, they tend to quickly pay off their (admittedly high) purchase price.

There’s only one potential problem with heat pumps: they struggle in extremely low temperatures. However, considering the fact that you’re in Central Florida, you shouldn’t have much to worry about in that department.

Window AC

You know those little air conditioner units that you see protruding out of windows? Those are windows ACs.

First, it’s important to note that there’s nothing inherently wrong with window air conditioners. They serve their function as needed. However, they’re not truly equipped to serve as long-term cooling options.

Why? Because they lack energy efficiency. In short, they cost a lot of money to run. Therefore, while you could certainly run a window AC if you wish, you would be spending substantially more over the years in the form of energy bills.

Portable Air Conditioner

Somewhat similar to the window AC is the portable air conditioner. Possessing a number of similarities to window ACs, portable air conditioners can be transported quickly, allowing them to cover different rooms whenever they’re needed.

Of course, like window ACs, they’re extremely inefficient to run. In fact, they’re even less efficient, burning through money at a rapid pace.

Therefore, while you could conceivably use the portable air conditioner as a temporary option, you really shouldn’t consider it as a permanent one. Ductless mini-splits or central AC units are more ideal.
